Bonn/Bad Hersfeld, January 15, 2026 – With "Das Quartier Bad Hersfeld," the VR-Bankverein Bad Hersfeld-Rotenburg is transforming the former Herkules parking garage into a modern urban module. Mobility, retail, gastronomy, services, and workspaces are bundled in a single location to serve as a catalyst for a future-ready city center. The technological foundation is provided by Snabble’s central, cloud-based POS platform, which integrates a wide variety of use cases in the background.

The Quartier as a Modern Urban Module

Centrally located between the city center, the main railway station, and the bus terminal, the quarter offers 288 covered parking spaces alongside dedicated areas for retail, dining, offices, and services.

Via the VReddy app—developed and designed by Snabble—visitors can register their license plates to enjoy seamless, barrier-free entry and exit through a free-flow system. The app enables digital payment for parking and, depending on the quarter's specific offerings, allows users to manage additional features such as EV charging or accessing various retail and hospitality services.

By consolidating these applications into a single interface, the app significantly reduces administrative effort and eliminates media discontinuities in everyday use. This provides visitors with a unified user experience, even as a variety of different systems and providers operate in the background.

Central POS Platform as the Technological Foundation

In the Quartier, a wide range of requirements converge, from parking and e-mobility to checkout processes, access management, and space management. To control these processes, VR-Bankverein relies on the central, cloud-based POS platform from Snabble. On this basis, free-flow parking with license plate recognition, parking space management, and a charging infrastructure with a total of over 50 charging points for cars are bundled within the Quartier and at other locations in Bad Hersfeld.

In the retail sector, the platform forms the foundation for the LoKarl-Markt, with a projected 12–24 self-checkoutsacross several locations, supplemented by traditional POS systems and fully functional mobile registers. Furthermore, access solutions such as WANZL Access Management, including access to sanitary facilities, and a Tomra reverse vending machine are integrated.

A large portion of these functions can be used via the VReddy App, which serves as the central digital interface and creates a unified user experience for visitors, regardless of which systems and providers are utilized in the background. The platform reduces technical complexity, facilitates the integration of further tenants, additional registers, self-checkouts, and services, and is designed for expansion—for example, in the form of additional quarters in Central Hesse. The Quartier thus becomes a blueprint for scalable, technology-driven district development.

Voice on the Project

"With the Quartier Bad Hersfeld, we are demonstrating what a modern urban module can look like: architecturally visible, diverse in content, and technologically future-proof," says Rick Fröhnert, District Manager at VR-Bankverein Bad Hersfeld-Rotenburg eG. "Precisely because we are bringing so many use cases together in a confined space, a central platform that elegantly resolves this complexity in the background was essential for us."

"The Quartier is a prime example of how our POS platform can be utilized far beyond the traditional checkout counter," says Nico Hoffmann, Head of Project Management & Business Development at Snabble. "Parking, charging, shopping, and access management all run on a shared technical foundation. This simplifies workflows today and enables future expansions in Bad Hersfeld and other locations."
