The Snabble Year In Review 2020, Part 2

In the second part of our annual review, we let our partners and retailers speak for us. Tegut... teo received the highest media attention in the area of PoS and retail solutions in 2020. An innovative retail concept that became reality after years of planning. The pure development and concept work already started in December 2017 with a small tegut... project team.

Teo offers customers the opportunity to make purchases around the clock via Scan & Go and stationary self-checkout on a sales area of just under 50 square meters. The format offers healthy and fresh products (fruits & vegetables, chilled goods, frozen goods, convenience products, beverages – alcoholic and non-alcoholic, dry goods as well as drugstore and hygiene products). In terms of merchandise categories, the coverage corresponds to a full-range retailer and offers the potential for a classic weekly shopping trip.

teo's success

"Supermarket Tegut opens high-tech store without cashiers" is the headline on ntv's regional news. This was followed by the Retail Innovation Award 2020 from the German Retail Association in November. Actually, the success of the project speaks for itself. Nevertheless, we would like to capture another response at the end of the year. Customer acceptance and the economic viability of cashierless store concepts were often doubted. Mr. Stäb, Sales Manager Tegut convenience stores, comments:

 Of course, both customer acceptance and the economic aspect are decisive for implementing a new technology in our stores. In our opinion, the acceptance towards Scan & Go and self-checkout solutions has increased significantly in recent years. The pandemic in particular has changed customers' attitude. Looking at the economic aspect, we can report positive things in cooperation with Snabble. Equipping a new store with Snabble optimizes on-site processes and at the same time helps to increase service levels. A perfect basis for new sales concepts, like tegut...teo. 

Mr. Stäb addresses one of Snabble's goals. We want retailers to be able to think outside previously applicable boundaries when planning new stores. Scan & Go technology can be used differently at different locations. Retailers can integrate Scan & Go as well as SCOs into large-scale stores. However, mobile self-checkout and BYOD solutions mean that small-area concepts can also be implemented.

teo – what's next?

In the future, we can look forward to further exciting projects with tegut.... In addition to the expansion of the tegut... teo concept, interesting interviews with Mr. Gatzweiler, the project manager of the teo concept, and Mr. Stäb, sales manager of Tegut convenience stores, will follow. However, we don't want to reveal too much at this point and take away your anticipation.
